Our Orlnado eye doctors will assess your eyes for refractive errors to determine whether you need a prescription for corrective lenses like contact lenses or eyeglasses. However, the eye exam incorporates other components of vision and eye health assessment, such as testing binocular vision, peripheral vision, and observing the eyes and retina using a slit lamp and / or a retinoscope. We also screen for eye conditions and eye diseases.

The way an eye exam is carried out may be altered to suit the needs of the patient. Our highly trained staff would be happy to assist you in booking your appointments one after another to accommodate your entire family. Walk-ins are welcome as well.

Snellen Chart

During your eye exam near Kissimmee, our optometrists will ask you to read out loud the smallest line of text letters that you can make out. If you can read the very bottom row, your visual acuity is very good and you have 20/20 vision. There are many variations of the Snellen eye chart. Most common are charts with 11 rows of capital letters. Since many eye doctors' offices don't have rooms that are 20 feet long, in a smaller room the eye chart may hang behind the patient chair, using mirrors to make it appear in front of you at a simulated distance of 20 feet.

Retinoscope

Our eye doctors will use a Retinoscope to shine light into the patient's eye and observes the reflection off the eye's retina. Our Kissimmee eye doctor will observe the relative movement of the reflex then uses a phoropter or manually places lenses over the eye to "neutralize" the reflex. Retinoscopy is particularly useful in prescribing corrective lenses like eyeglasses and contact lenses for our patients who are unable to undergo a subjective refraction that requires a judgement and response from the patient
